Happy festiveness
During all my time spent with Chad, I had not spent the Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve period with him.
Well, I have broken that drought this year! I love this time of year – catching up with people, errands and work, all at a relaxed pace… reflecting on the year that was and planning for the year that will be.
We actually had another first together this year – going away for Christmas. Thanks to Raelene and Graham (Chad’s folks) for organising. Just the thought of going away made everybody excited in anticipation of an enjoyable and relaxing time.
Our destination was almost 700 kilometres away or close to an 8 hour drive to a small coastal town on the western side of the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. Port Augusta was our first stop, where we enjoyed a veggie burger with beer battered chips for $7.90 – half the price of a meal in Ads.
Once we had hit the Eyre Highway, we began to count the roadkill, the traffic thinned and any vehicle that we did pass, would give us friendly finger wave.
We immediately felt welcomed upon arrival at our accommodation – the space was very clean, there was a decent sized pool, spa and a trampoline (and yes, of course we had a play).
Streaky Bay and it’s surroundings is definitely a fisherman’s paradise and if you’re not a massive fishy person, like us, you will enjoy the many breathtaking coastal drives, walks, views of sea lion colonies, spotting dolphin pods, discovering caves and blow holes, just to name a few of the activities we got stuck into.
What we loved the most was the tranquility (when the southerlies weren’t blowing) of our surroundings and spending quality family time.
